The map that I had showed that the Marine Corps Memorial was just outside of Arlington National Cemetery. As was the theme for D.C., this was utter bullshit. It took me like an hour to walk there and back to the visitors center to meet back up with Norma. She had no desire to walk anymore after we had walked the cemetery, and there was no way I was not going to see this memorial.

One of the cool things to do is to walk around the memorial and watch the flag. It is an optical illusion, but it looks like the flag is being raised as you circle the memorial.

This is my little piece of Marine Corps history. I was in Somalia for the initial beach landing.
